At Little Gem's Pre-School our named SENDCo is Kallie
What can we offer?

If your child receives additional support from professionals such as paediatrician, dietician, speech and language therapist or occupational therapist we will always communicate with them to ensure the correct support, care plan and training is in place.

Early help
When you first enquire about your child starting our setting, it's beneficial to share any concerns you may have. This means we can support you as a family from the beginning.
We ask parents to sign a consent form which allows us to refer to specialists and share reports regarding your child if needed.

Initial concern form
We have a document which states valuable information from the start.
If parent's have concerns we ask them to complete and keep on file.
If key person or SENCO has concerns they will complete and share with families.

Observations
During the settling in period you will work closely with your child's key worker and our SENCO. All staff members will observe and record interactions with your child to ensure their needs are fully being met.
This build's up as evidence if a referral is made.

Interventions
At Little Gem's we ensure every individual has opportunities to develop skills and progress. Children with SEND often require targeted support aimed at improving key development skills.
We offer different approaches to meet every child's needs. Some of these include:

Makaton PECS Visuals Now & Next board

Working in partnership with families
If your child is experiencing difficulties in specific area(s) of learning we offer a targeted support plan. This is completed and evaluated termly by your child's key person and shared with SENCO and families.
Please take a look to see what evidence is recorded.

One Planning
One Planning is a way to support children and young people to make progress towards the things that matter to them. You might also hear this cycle being referred to as the 'graduated' approach or person-centred planning - these are the same thing. One Planning is what Essex calls the 'graduated' approach.
During this process you will have regular meetings in the setting to document topics such as what's going well, what's not going as well, the child's views and targets set. Each One Plan is unique but requires the same information.

Education, & Health Care Plans
An Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) is a legal document that sets out a child or young person's special educational, health and social needs and how those needs should be met. It sets outcomes that the child or young person wants to achieve in life. They are regularly reviewed to make sure the support your child receives is working for them.

Transition to school
When it's time for your child to leave Little Gem's and begin their transition to school, we will ensure this goes as smoothly as can be. We are here to support and guide you as a family. This will begin in the Summer term once school places have been allocated. We do this by:
School SENCO attending One Planning meeting
School teacher meeting your child in a familiar setting such as pre-school
With consent, sharing documents with school
Visuals to show your child their new environment and surrounding
